Street Lighting

This project category encourages the replacement of your community's street lighting with energy efficient technologies. For example, LED lighting is a new technology which can be implemented throughout your community's street lights. LED lights are more efficient and durable. Retrofitting and installation is a highly successful and an easily applied program for communities.

There are three principle advantages to upgrading municipal and/or county street lights to LEDs: LEDs are brighter—more evenly emitting light, making them more visible in foggy conditions; LED lights last for 100,000 hours, compared to incandescent bulbs, which have filaments that burn out and may last only 8,000 hours before needing to be replaced; Replacing bulbs costs money and fewer burned-out lights also increases the safety of your community's streets.
